Memaid update

Well I spent all day Saturday communing with my Kindle & my recliner. It was bliss. I moved a bunch of old .pdf ebooks over to the Kindle and sped read/re-read a few of them. And then I fell face first into Jayne Castle’s newest Obsidian Prey. Literature is for English majors (no offence, someone needs to understand Leaves of Grass) and those who read everything Oprah tells them. I read for enjoyment. Which reminds me, news articles were written about which books Obama took on vacation. 1. Who cares? 2. Spare me the discussion about how his choices reflect some Terribly Important Concept that would make us all better people if we Just Got It.

When did it become dirty to read for enjoyment? For entertainment? I can rot my brain in front the tv for hours every week between True Blood, Mad Men, Project Runway and no one says boo. But admit to reading romance?! Gads, it’s like people think you’re functionally retarded.  Whatever, I LIKE ROMANCE. I LIKE FANTASY. I LIKE HAPPY ENDINGS. – make the joke and I’ll have your Mom wash your mouth out with soap 😉

Ok, yeah, what this post is about. Kaye’s MiraRR is 99% done!

Backstitching, the directions weren’t included with the working copy of the chart and I don’t have this chart in my stash (a Mira Mermaid I don’t own! shocking!). I dropped Kaye an email yesterday but she’s hasn’t gotten back to me yet (totally understandable). If anyone out there in blog land does happen to have the chart handy I’d love you forever if you shared the bs instructions.

And before The Cross Stitch Police show up. (Yes you, you bitches know who you are. And fuck you very much btw. I haven’t had a go around with you gals in almost a year. Dare I say I’m feeling neglected?) Let me explain how the copies that travel with the RRs work.

1. Not everyone sends working copies. In fact most don’t.

2. Those that do, make a working copy from an original that they bought legally. And in the interest of space we only copy the area of the chart we want on the RR. And of course send along the key.

Essentially the copies that travel around are worthless except for stitching on the RR of the person who made the copies, which are copied from a chart she owns.

I would also like to point out I’ve never been a part of a Mirabilia RR where most of the members didn’t end up buying more Mirabilia charts because once they saw a bit of one in person decided that they had to have it. Or used the RR as an excuse to increase their Mirabilia stash. So there. 😛

Gosh I’m a bit ranty today. And it’s not even PMS time!

    MOTDB backstitching:
face, body (which I read as “skin”), and eyebrows with one strand 3781.
mermaid body (my interpretation – scaly bits) with one strand 3031. (Not sure if you need that info for the bit you stitched?)
    eyelashes with THREE strands 3031.

And thassit!! (Now, if I could just get motivated to actually stitch on the girls now that I’ve pulled the chart out again….hmmm.)

    Ah, the Police!!

Is it REALLY that hard? They are so legalistic! Basically, Imagine that YOU are the designer. Who gets paid when people buy your work. If what you’re doing wouldn’t bother you, then it’s fine.

A bunch of ladies finally doing something with their piles of Mirabilia stash? And making friends and memories? It’s not like it isn’t your chart for your piece in this whole RR thing.

    She’s looking good, btw.

That mermaid looks lovely. Can’t wait to see her finished.
And gosh, I do love reading your blog. It brightens up my day without fail. I LOVE your sense of humor.

Jeez, always my morning challenge to do that math question lol.
Your Mira is looking great. I see someone has provided you with the directions. Good go.
And the Cross Stitch Police – I’m sticking my tongue out at you! lol

Looks great as always Missy! 🙂

I totally agree with you on the reading thing – I’m always trying to convince the DS to read anything rather than sit in front of the boob tube so much. I don’t care if it is drivel, its still better than rotting in front of the TV.

Rant all you want! Some people need to get a life instead of policeing what everyone else does! Mermaid looks lovely!! Your stitching is so perfect!!!

  7. Melissa C. says:

I just picked up Mad Men this weekend. I’m on episode 6 of season 1. It makes me want to take up smoking again. And drink screwdrivers at work. LOL

My trashy book fetish is horrible mysteries and chick lit. Yes, I have an English degree, and do read “literature” (said with a snotty accent), but I like crap too.

  8. Annette says:

I rented the first two disks of True Blood this weekend. Just have to watch it after the kids are in bed! Adore Project Runway! Haven’t tried Mad Men….yet.

Kaye’s mermaid looks great! So for this RR has me kitting up charts I have (including the half dozen I bought specifically for the RR) and anxious to start them LOL

Don’t even get me started on the Obama Reading List. Ugh. I am SO tired of people telling me what I *should* read. I read what I want!! Who cares if I like Zombies with my Pride & Prejudice? Or a bit of fang/magic with my mystery? And don’t get me started on my new paranormal romance habit…..

  9. Add me to the list of those who read to be entertained. I have waaay too much realism in my life thankyouverymuch. Except for the reading I must do for my profession, I prefer to escape to some fantasy or another. It’s great stress reliever – especially when you can pretend you are some jacked-up gal whoopin’ on some bad-assed monsters! Works for me.

Mermaid is beautiful! I love to see the RR pics. A snippet of actual stitching sometimes convinces me to buy the chart (well, not mermaids, but pixies and fairies, for sure), and I’m not even in the RRs! I thumb my nose in the general direction of those who think they are the CSP!

I read for entertainment, too. I count Sue Grafton, Patricia Cornwell, and Mary Higgins Clark amongst my favorite authors…

  11. DH says:

    Hey…you spelled Mermaid incorrectly…

You’re allowed to be crabby every once in awhile. Would it make you feel better to know that I’ve been so crabby lately that I’m actually excited about the start of flu shot season just so I can have the satisfaction of getting paid to stick annoying people with needles for awhile? Anyway, your mermaid is very pretty even without the bs.
